A young girl stands by her Mother’s side in Mexico City and her Mother tells her that she believes a blessing has fallen on the young one, “You are gifted and my encouragement is for you to learn how far it takes you”. Those words were spoken to Evelyn Rubio by her Mother and Evelyn trusted her Mother’s instincts and did just that, she wanted to learn how far her God given talents would take her. Soon she was hosting children’s plays throughout Mexico City which included music and then came an offer to tour with a rock band. The band performed at all of the resort communities and as the band progressed so did Evelyn’s stage experience. Soon she would receive an offer to travel to Houston Texas where she would meet entertainment lawyer Al Staehely who immediately set up an interview and test session for Evelyn with B.B. King’s late band director, Mr. Calvin Owens. Calvin was so impressed that he offered Evelyn a multi-album contract which she gladly accepted on the spot. Their collaboration led to the Billboard chart topping album, “Hombres”. In March of 2016 “Hombres” landed #1, #3, and #6 within three different categories on Billboard. Next Evelyn traveled to Europe where she was on a press, radio, and live performance tour. While in northern Italy Evelyn debuted her new song “He Did Me Wrong But He Did It Right” to an audience of about 400. She performed it in both English and Spanish receiving a standing ovation. The majority of those standing were women. When Evelyn returned to the states she was booked into the Jazz Club in Las Vegas sharing the stage with famed jazz pianist Uli Geissendoerfer. While there she also performed at the annual Las Vegas Blues Society Christmas event the following night. Upon returning to Houston Ms. Rubio performed at the top rated downtown Houston club Sambuca with the Evelyn Rubio Band.
